MANUAL THERAPY

PURPOSE: Increase blood flow to bring anti-inflammatory chemicals to irritated tissue.

PHASE 1 OF 5

YOUR TISSUE IS UNHAPPY.

MANUAL THERAPY RESETS IT BY BRINGING ANTI-INFLAMMATORY CHEMICALS IN TO KICKSTART THE HEALING PROCESS

Types of manual therapy are:

  1. Massage (deep tissue, strain-counterstrain, ischemic release, etc)

  2. Cupping / Myofascial Decompression

  3. Graston / Scraping

  4. Voodoo Floss

The goal and indication of manual therapy is to reset the tissue through the means of blood flow manipulation (short term). Massage and cupping have the same end result, they just get there by opposite means. It depends on what your body and nervous system respond to, to indicate what modality is necessary for you.

The tissue itself has its own voice and our tests, hands, and eyes can decipher what a tissue is saying.

For Example:

  1. Are you neurologically tight or mechanically tight?

    1. They need different stimulus.

  2. Is your muscle hypo or hypertonic?

    1. They need different inputs, which mean they need different manual therapy techniques.

Neurologically tight: your nervous system is holding on out of fear or lack of safety

Mechanically tight: your muscle is holding on out of lack of mobility

Tone is a muscles resting state.

Hypotonicity: Hypo means low, so your muscle is asleep.

Hypertonicity: Hyper means high, so your muscle is always on edge, never resting.

Each tissue has its own issue, meaning it needs a different input to affect the output, which for you is less pain and better movement.
